WHAT IS SAP?
A Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) evaluates employees who violate U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol regulations and determines the education, treatment, and follow-up required before returning to safety-sensitive work. The SAP’s role is independent, compliance-driven, and centered on public safety. SAP evaluations are required for employees in safety-sensitive positions such as CDL drivers, aviation personnel, and pipeline workers.
